What is a root canal treatment?

Great question! If you’ve navigated to this page you’re probably wondering what exactly is root canal therapy and what are the other procedures that we as endodontists perform? Well first off the word endodontics comes from two Greek words,  “endomeaning inside of andodontmeaning tooth. The inside of the tooth is where we do our work. Root canal treatment is just one type of endodontic treatment.

The inside component of the tooth is what we refer to as the dental PULP. We perform root canal treatment when the pulp becomes injured, damaged, or diseased. Our main goal as an endodontist is to save the natural tooth for as long as possible. The video below explains the steps involved.

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.

While most infected teeth are symptomatic some produce no discomfort at all.
